Staff News Letter
5/13-5/17

I hope everyone had a wonderful first full week in May.  I appreciate all of the hard work that has gone into the testing over the past few weeks.  As many of you have found via past experience, the end of school year will be much more enjoyable and productive if we continue with our regular routines and procedures until the end of the year.  I quickly found out while teaching that if I didn’t keep my students focused right up to the end of school year, life became a challenge.  I would encourage all of us to push through to the end.  Those who have field trips scheduled, please be sure to communicate with the kitchen if you need lunches or have a change in lunch schedule.

I am excited to announce that our Theater Arts Grant was approved for funding.  The Theater Arts position will be posted next week.  Thank you for all of your support in helping to bring this program to our school.  I think you will find it a wonderful help to you.

I sent out a Google Doc on Wednesday for your class rankings.  If you have not already done so, please have it filled out by *Monday at the latest.  I can’t start on classes until I have the rankings completed.  If you are still waiting on DIBELS data, go ahead and use what you have to list their level.

Reminder (Teachers/Full Time Employees): Poster pictures Monday afternoon.  Be ready to smile and remember to bring your favorite book to display.

By way of information, at this moment, we have 10.27 days, 246.54 hours, 14,732.3000 minutes, and 887,521 seconds left in the school year.

Have a fantastic weekend!

I hope you all are having a wonderful CRT/DIBELS/RLA week.  I know how busy it can be this time of year, but I wanted you to know how much I appreciate all of the extra time and effort.

You will be receiving the student ranking spreadsheet next week.  When you receive it, if you could get it filled out as soon as possible.

Staff change update:

3rd Grade – Alejandra Bryant (Dual Immersion) To be presented to School Board May 21st.
Reading Specialist – Jennifer Smith
Extended Day K – Still to be filled.
Music – Still to be listed.
East Elementary Door Greeter – Yet to be assigned.

In visiting with Jeff, he indicated that he would be happy to put down plastic where needed for classroom activities where paints could spill or drip.  Also, if you would please just do a quick reminder at the end of the day for students to pick up the large things off the floor.  It will save time for our custodians that are so tight on time.

I hope you are all ready for a fantastic weekend.  Remember who you are and what you stand for.

Faculty News Letter
Apr. 29-May 3

I want to express my appreciation for all the hard work you have all done over the past several weeks.  I know how busy it is this time of year.

I have begun circulating samples of Go Math for you all to evaluate.  I will get copies of the rubric out to each grade level so you can each make a recommendation as to which program will work best.

Please not faculty meeting was changed on the calendar to accommodate a visit from the District.

Walkathon – I am sorry to adjust the date again, but the walkathon conflicted with the testing schedule and so had to be changed to the 16th

Please let me know if you have any dead spots for wifi in any of your rooms.  I am putting together a list for tech so they can upgrade those areas.

It appears that things are going well with testing and that students are working hard.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions for the reward movie for working hard.

It is a beautiful, warm, and sunny Friday.  I hope you all enjoy it.

Staff Newsletter
Apr. 8-12

I hope this has been a wonderful week for each of you.  It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the second week in April.  Thank you for all of your hard work and positive attitudes so far this year.  As I have been around trying to finish up evaluations, I have appreciated the vast majority of you posting your objectives on the board.  Beyond being a good thing for the class, it helps me to make the connection on the curriculum portion of the evaluation and what is being covered in class.  You all do such an incredible job teaching.  Thank you.

Just a reminder that as 3-5 grades spend more time in the computer labs preparing for CRTs there will be fewer time slots available.  If you are a 3-5 grade class, if you would please block the times in the lab that you will need on the schedule so the k-2 teachers can continue to use the lab during the open times.

As many of you are already aware, we will be losing a few more members of our staff.  Mrs. Torres will be staying home to be mom next year and Mrs. Allen will be moving to a 3rd grade teaching position at North Elementary.  As we already know, Mrs. Bess will be on the retirement track, however, she did mention to me that she would be available to volunteer for bus duty during the months of January and February.  Just call her before 6:30 AM if you would like her to take your bus duty.  Mrs. Torres indicated that she would be happy to be a faculty meeting proxy for anyone who could afford to pay her.  I will miss those who will not be returning next year.  I’m sure we will be prepared to send them out with a bang.

*In your next newsletter please include Dads and Donuts on the 19th at 8:20 in the gym.  If you would also include that teacher requests will be due by May 1st.  The forms can be found in the office and on the school website.  Please indicate in your letter that the office does not encourage requests, but they are available for situations that parents feel would require additional considerations while placing students.
