I wanted to thank all those who have helped support what we are doing in the lunchroom.  It has been kind of fun trying different methods to improve lunchroom behavior, even with the organized chaos it has caused some days.  I think we are getting closer to having the kinks ironed out.  Please feel free to join us in the lunchroom if you would like a truly exhilarating experience.  I might even let you run the Class Dojo app for a few minutes.

Remember that with SAGE testing beginning this week the computer labs will be tied up several days during the week.

Please remind your parents in your next newsletter that Kindergarten registration will take place this upcoming Tuesday from 12:00-3:00.

Jeff has asked that if you have any kind of spill, please let him know and he would be happy to get it cleaned up before it stains.

I wanted to thank all those that have pitched in to help in the library while Holly has been gone.  It has been wonderful to see how everyone has been willing to pitch in.

I wanted to thank everyone for encouraging students to participate in the Science Fair.  We currently have over 200 students signed up to participate!  I am excited to see the projects and collections.  A special thanks to Jennifer and her committee for putting everything together.  It has been fun to see how the Science Fair has evolved over the years.  Along with the Science Fair, please remember that we will be hanging the art projects on the wall as well.

Thank you for your patience as we have continued to work to refine our techno lunchroom system.  I am looking to see if we can find someone to donate a Jumbotron for our lunchroom.  We could become the first elementary school in Utah with a Jumbotron.

Once again, thank you for all the wonderful things you all do!

I want to thank all of you for your extra time and hard work that went along with SEP week.  I know how long SEP weeks are, so thank you so much.  Along with the SEP Week, I will be sending out a Google Doc to collect all of the survey information collected from our 3-5th grades.  I will be sending out information today for grades 3-5 on how to take the student surveys in the computer lab via the link on our web page.

I received a lot of positive feedback this week from parents that were extremely happy with what they have seen at East Elementary.  Thanks for doing what you do.

As I have mentioned to several of you, I am excited to unveil the Lunch Room Technology Extravaganza Management System.  It just gives me goose bumps.  We will be using the Class Dojo app to project points earned on the wall of the cafeteria.  It may take a little time to work through the bugs, but each class will be able to earn or loose points based on lunchroom behavior.  At the end of each month, classes who earn an average of 3 points a day will earn 10 to 15 minutes of extra recess.  I am still working out the points required.

I hope you are all ready and excited for the upcoming SEP Week.  Thank you for the extra time and effort required in setting up appointments.  As you conduct your SEPs next week, I wanted to provide a few possible suggestions that many of you already have in place that seem to help them go smoothly:

Ø  Greet parents in a positive friendly way.   The way you would like to be greeted if you were the parent.
Ø  Never start in on a problem as the first item of business of the SEP.
Ø  Express appreciation for their child and that you love having him/her child in your class.  Parents always want to know that you like their child.
Ø  When dealing with a problem, approach it as an area where you would like to help the child improve.  Rather than comments that their child is behind all the other students or never completes their work, try rephrasing it into areas where they can improve.  (I want to keep working with… to help bring him from a first to third grade reading level.  A few things you can do at home are…) It is important to let parents know we expect their student to improve.
Ø  Work to create a positive climate.

If you would please be sure that Sherri has a copy of your SEP schedule.  If you were to share a live Google Doc with Sherri it would be even better.  She fields a lot of calls regarding SEP Schedules…

Thanks for all you do.  Have a fantastic weekend!

I hope you all had a wonderful week this week.  It is hard to imagine that we are approaching the month of March.  March will be different than it has in been in the past because we will begin our testing.  If you are in grades 3-5, please be sure you are taking your students into the lab regularly to practice the tools for the SAGE assessment.  The more comfortable the are on the system, the more accurate their score will be.   For grades K-2, please note that the lab schedules will be changing over the next few months as we move into CRTs and practice sessions.  There will be times when testing will interfere with Waterford.

Please note that we will NOT be doing Grand Parents Lunch during SEP week this year.  We may look at doing it later in the year.  Along with SEPs, we will need everyone to set up their **SEP schedules this next week.  You should have a list of siblings from fall SEPs.  If you would please correlate with each other when making up your schedules.  Parent surveys will need to be given out in grades 3-5 as well. We will do the student surveys in the computer labs like we have in the past.

Thanks for all you do and all of your hard work.  Enjoy each moment.

Have a wonderful weekend.
